Courageous Conversation at Scrumptious Reads
Courageous Conversations is part of the living body of work of Feathersome and brings the Q & A experience read in the Journal to groups of people. We enjoyed thought-provoking, bold questions and conversation over breakfast to delve deeper into human connection over subject matter inspired by women leading. When the solo guy in the feminist conversation remarked he had learned so much and wanted to come back regularly and 100% of the group said they would recommend the experience…that’s impactful.
Women in Print Panel Discussion
Janine had the pleasure of discussing what it takes to startup a print journal. Great Q&A with the two women who printed the journal and contributed to the creative production effort.
Journal and Event Internships
We mentored six university interns over two years, learning so much from them as they became part of the Feathersome team. Here is a little taste of their experience:
‘I have so much gratitude for Feathersome, for the mentorship, friendship, and opportunities it has given me, to step into myself and step up to new challenges … I’ve learned about the importance of value alignment in life and business, and have a more discerning outlook on what I want to do in this big, wide world … Feathersome was a brilliant chapter in my life, an unpredictable and soul fulfilling experience which will always be part of me.’
Bronte
Feathersome was a fantastic opportunity to learn, grow and experience how journalism and art can translate into different professional roles and spaces. It was also brilliant to work with an organisation that shares similar values to myself, and with people who I could relate to and work with well. … Slowly and surely, the women at Feathersome allowed me to develop my skills and creativity in a safe and stimulating environment. …Through the journey, the team at Feathersome supported me to be myself and believe in my ideas and potential.

Journal flew to London
After quite some time in the air Feathersome landed in the UK. Janine met with the lovely paper makers at GFSMith in London and hand deliver copies of the journal. With an impressive wall of paper and plenty of paper samples to increase the weight and the carry on for the trip home. Couldn’t have been more inspired by what’s happening for paper and print OS.
Journal at Brisbane Feminist Festival at QUT
The One Woman Project’s annual Brisbane Feminist Festival provided a platform for the Journal to engage with some new customers. We exhibited alongside UN Women, Global Sisters and local artisans connecting with about 50 people passionate about uplifting women leading.
Journal finds a home with 5 Brisbane retailers
In August we tramped the footpaths and took the Journal to independent booksellers and gift shops in Brisbane with the result that all five retailers we visited agreed to stock it. One retailer commented, ‘Wow, this could not have landed at a better time. It’s like this journal was a gift for me today’ Thank you to our stockists [link to stockists page] for supporting print and enabling women’s voices to be spoken, seen, heard and valued in more places.
Launched the Journal
Feathersome Journal took flight in June after two years of creative distillation from an idea about a magazine that showcases authentic female leadership. The consciously crafted, gift wrapped Journal landed in our community’s hands enabling them to fully immerse themselves in inspiring and intelligent stories of female courage, resilience, ingenuity and truth. One recipient commented, ‘This actually feels like my very own gift, like you made it for me.’
Journaling Courage Workshop at WOW Festival
As a workshop contributor to the Women of the World Festival Brisbane, Feathersome was able to lead a full room of thirty women through an exploration of leadership. Women delved into service-oriented leadership, reflected on their own tools born out of adversity and shared their resources with one another.
Chuffed Crowd-funding campaign
We raised just over $4165 in our crowd-funding campaign on https://chuffed.org/projects/feathersomejournal to pre-sell the Journal to raise money for the print. The Chuffed crew were incredibly supportive, making the process simple to upload, manage and review the campaign. Thank you to Chuffed, a not-for-profit crowd-funding platform, and our wonderful and generous community that helped this venture fly.
You and Me Leading with Tea on International Womens Day 2018
We had the pleasure of collaborating with the State Library Qld to host their IWD 2018 event, which sold out within two weeks of release…so we found more chairs to deliver to a capacity audience. We interviewed three diverse, intelligent and accomplished female leaders, Dr Nora Amath, Prudence Melom and Anna Guenther, about leadership, adversity, resourcefulness and legacy. The panel inspired lively conversation among guests, heartfelt podcast recordings and generous messages of hope.
One Hope To Give Infozone Collection at State Library of Qld
For 10 days in the lead up to International Women’s Day 2018 Feathersome collected postcards of hope. We amassed 180 messages of hope from people of all walks of life.
Feathersome’s life-blood: Volunteers
Forty-eight people offered time, brains, energy, heart and soul to Feathersome and we would not have been able to do all the activity and offer the publications, events and workshops without them. And this is just the number of people we counted … the numbers of community who have been in touch and offered support has been countless.
Launched ‘Feathursday’ Newsletter
Feathursday emerged from the very real and humbling experiences of the team as they explored and grew along their Feathersome flight path. These tales of courage on the fly penned by the team about inspiring feminine risk-taking helped to build our community and keep them informed about our happenings. Since its launch in January we have amassed 1011 subscribers joining the Feathersome community.
